Would stay way from the "grey imports"and Chinese pianos,should be able to get better deal on new Yamaha or Kawai k15 keep to the brands that are new and offer manufacturers warranties,better quality and better residuals if ever looking to upgrade.

To be honest I would seriously look at Bosendorfers before you buy. They are not in the same league on quality,durability,tonality,tuning stability and build quality,may be in the same price range,there as only been one Bosendorfer grand piano sale in the U.K in 18 months do you want me to continue.

Does silent system compromise upright action? Yes unable to fine regulate piano for optinium performance,had a guy wanting to fit Gabor system to new Steinway model K thats a no no from me. Always have them factory fitted.

Seen similar pianos over the years and they where both made by Kawai a little later in the fifties.Bichord pianos are still available today would not think its of great value,but case decoration looks nicely done which may increase its value to the novelty hunter.

Look at the quality difference?,there are better chinese pianos on the market than steinmayers and for a few pounds more you can get the Samick pianos which are of a better build and tone quality,the Steinmayers in my opinion are the cheapest of the cheap.Get a decent Yamaha U1 preferably UK sold.

Certianly not one for refurbishment, your £3.5k would be better spend on a decent new yamaha or kawai pianos,not a chinese piano at that budget,would never recon straight-strung with spring-loop action.

The cheap way to mute sound is a thick pile carpet attached to the back-cloth area or soundboard of piano seems to work without getting tied up in the science of sound-proofing.
