Apart from the hammer felts 'settling in' which will brighten the tone, your piano is now deteriorating again.

If you retain the original strings and hammers, then it should sound as it does now. I've come across plenty of pianos that have been restored by a certain 'reputable dealer' (now out of business, thankfully) which have sounded almost like harpsichords due to the hardness of the hammer felt used, I ...

Naaaaahhhh, just unhook each tubby string from hitch pin, tie a single loop, run the loop up and down using lever or summink to release the crud, re-attach to hitch pin, retune, sorted.

I'm sure that if a Bechstein grand can still sound dandy with whacking great chasms in the soundboard not to mention the trademark cracked frame, then the vibrations from a string aren't going to get too fussed about the kind of varnish used on the soundboard.

Unless it has a 'silent system' and sounds like a Kawaimaha XL5, the only advice you'll get on this forum is to use a sledge hammer.


I'd advise using a disc cutter, personally.
