Re: Please help me with a fraught purchasing decision
The U3 is through a well-known piano shop here in Cambridge [...] I think it had a price tag of £2300 Make sure you ask for the serial number and age of that one to check that the 2 marry up. Some buyers are kept in the dark about the age of used Yamaha uprights. That price of £2300 would suggest a...

Re: Please help me with a fraught purchasing decision
Hi Schwejk, Apparently it has had new strings, dampers, hammers If it's had a fully set of new strings, they would look blindingly shiny. Did you look underneath the lid? Again, with hammers and dampers, they'd look brilliant white. I don't think you're being told the whole truth here. The dealer ha...

Re: mascagni pianos.
Is it overdamped and straight-strung?
Does it have 85 or 88 keys.
Upload some photos of the outside and inside and we will be much more able to help you.
How does it sound?
Is it clean inside?
Do all the notes work?
Do any notes ring on after you've let go of the key?
Did you get it for free?

Re: A poem about piano moving
I wrote this about a particular company and I've just phoned them to ask if they mind if I mention who they are. It's these chaps: www.pianospeed.com Jon is the friendliest piano mover on the planet. Not only that but he's the most hardest working piano mover too. The effort he puts into his trade i...

I've used Nortex for international piano shipments. This was when I used to export Bechstein grand pianos to North America & Japan. I would only be sending one at a time but it went very well and Nortex were good. This was export not import so they may not be able to help, I'm not sure. They are...

A poem about piano moving
It's a little bit GCSE standard (at best) but I wanted to write a poem to highlight the excellent work that piano movers do. The chaps that move mine every now and again are unbelievable. I could write about 20 paragraphs worth of admiration but instead here's a little poem. Why would they choose su...

8. Dont forget with internet sales distance selling regs apply so if you dont like it in the first (not sure how many weeks ) just ring the dealer up and tell him to collect ( your cost I think) and you want your money back, you dont even have to give a reason, rational or otherwise. Re: YAMAHA U1E OR U10A
Nobody has commented on the U10A just yet so I'll pipe up and say that I've had a few U10A uprights in stock and have found them to be mellower in tone compared with the U1. The U10A is too mellow for my tastes but many people like that slightly restrained tone, especially if noise is an issue in th...

When I removed the rubber gang mute that had obviously been there for years, the response improved immeasurably Oops!! My U3s often need the practise pedal adjusting from time to time. Nice post Barrie. Good advice :) It's a tough balance between not wanting to feel like you've butchered a piano by fitting the silent system and not wanting to have to play quietly, or play less frequently or make your piano sound muffled to keep the neighbours happy. I don't even have room for a U1...

Soft-Fall lid on used Yamaha U3 or U1 upright pianos?
Hello there
I was just hoping someone could let me know if anyone is selling a 3rd party hinge (or similar system) that can be fitted to 2nd hand pianos (Yamaha U3 and U1 in particular) to convert it into a soft-fall fallboard.
Thanks for any info
Regards,
Mark
