Do you have an alternative position further away from the radiator ? Two feet may be ok but if the radiator raises the temperature of the air around the soundboard it will drop the humidity. As far as I can tell from your photograph this is a wing screw bolt having a square form thread. I have never come across anyone saying that a GA1 had tuning stability issues but I wonder if this model had a fixed music stand very much like the GB1 which could make tuning rather more awkward. Personally I would prefer a piano with a sliding music desk. At fifteen years old I would expect the st...

Re: How to play these notes

If your hands are large enough you could play the low D and Fsharp on the F staff together. Most people couldn't do this so the low D is played as an arpeggio with the Fsharp, some people describe this as rolling the notes. The D in the right hand is played when the Fsharp is sounded.

I agree that 10060 is likely to be the serial number of your piano but I haven't been able to find a list of numbers against date.

I hope the piano can be tuned and that it enables you to start piano lessons.

The piano looks to be straight strung and under damped, the former not being so good but the latter good. I can only guess it was made in the early twentieth century. It looks as though it need lots of work, probably not economically feasible to return to playable condition.

If you use just one layer there will be an air gap from the top of the insulation to the bottom of the piano. The top of the insulation will eventually come up to temperature albeit slightly lower than the temperature of the uninsulated floor. Convection currents will be set up in the air gap betwee...

If you buy a roll of builders insulation there should be enough to build up a 'mutlipack' without using cardboard. Keep the shinny side facing downwards. All the best.
