I don't have one of these nor have I ever played one but in any digital/stage piano I have played, your normally push down the two voice buttons simultaneously to layer the sounds.

I believe there is also a way of controlling the balance of the layers with the CDP2 model.

Okay, well depending on your budget, look into the Kawai MP5 or MP8 models, the latter - I THINK - has wooden keys. Kawai do feature quite a range of keyboard with wooden keys and better than that, full sized grand piano wooden keys. For realism, this would be your best. If portability is not an iss...

I was going to suggest a contact spray for the crackling - glad that seems to have helped. You may need to use it 3-4 times to get rid of all crackling.

The only other thing I can suggest is using a DI box - are you using a mixer?

The Roland 300GX (not the redundant SX I mentioned in my last post) has a different keyboard action from the 700GX model so you may not be just as impressed. Always rather dangerous to generalise though, and I would say that music in a minor key can also sound happy and music in a major key can sound sad.
Don't you mean that the other way around: major making music sound happier and minor keys making music sound sadder?

Most keyboards like these have a rugged, metal skin or chassis inside which help take the pressure off the insides of the keyboard and its mechanisms so that they can be stored on their sides.
