Much though I hate to say it for £500 you probably better off getting a digital as unless you are very lucky and get a good private buy you wont get much for £500.

I think it will be possable to get a silent system retro fitted for quite a bit less than that, aprox £800ish fitted. Depends on which system that is and where you are. They are not available right now but should be within 6-8 weeks.

It does seem ironic that we are being told to reduce our food miles whilst now buying all our household contents from etailers the other end of the country from where we live. But as most of the stuff we buy has already come from the other side of the world a short tip in the uk is not adding much t...

I dont think you should worry to much about maintenance/ tuning. Keep the temp and humdity stable and both should be ok. You are going to have to have it tuned and at some time pay for a bit of maintenance, like buying and running a car. If you really like the Schimmel better to buy that and pay for...

We are seeing this problem from different sides of the same coin. You have obviously had a bad expereance with a piano dealer which is a shame. I look at this from my side, I left school at 16 spent 3 years training and set up in business 25 years ago. My familys future is tied up in this trade as i...

Be an individual and go the the RX1 route. I personaly think they are better than the Yamaha but im not the one whos going to play it . To be fair they are both good kit and its realy personal choce. I agree re the Boston, If you are going to sell it via the Steinway name people expect it to be good...

Re: Silent piano advice

Hi all, - Is the Yamaha B1 my only option, or are there other pianos that I should be considering? Yes you can have that type of system retro fitted to other pianos and other makes make them preinstaled - Is the Yamaha B1 a reasonable piano (given my budget) or am I shooting myself in the foot by g...

Just because they will sound exactly the same ( being digital ) doesnt make it any more moraly defensible to try in a shop and then buy online at a cheaper price. No wonder the online dealer can be cheaper hes not had to pay the higher town centre rates, the staff wages to demo the stock even the fl...

Ive fitted the old technics the piano disc and and the gabor ones and had no problems with either. The piano disc ones have a flexable plastic strip that bends when you press the key. The gabor ones use a optical beam cut by a plastic blade although they are now showing one with a beam like the Yam ...

As to asking a retailer to match a price that's not rude its just good practise. Have you never asked is that the best price you can do when making a big purchase There are retailers out there who have stock on their shop floor which cost more for them to buy, that what it is been sold for on the n...

I'd be tempted to ask for my money back. How could anyone leave a job looking like that? :? That would be quite good for our local cowboy. My favorite one of his "repairs" is the soundboard repair. He stapled it with a staple gun!!! Admitidly it did stop the first crack from getting wider...

You can have a silent system retro fitted to your piano. So you dont have to buy a new piano if you dont want to. There are 3 or 4 makes of system available doing roughly the same thing. Most will only go on uprights but some can be fitted to grands. Should take a good tech about half a day ( if the...

You need to find a good tech you trust, not some one selling pianos out of his bedroom who read a book and fancied being a tech just because he can play chopsticks on a piano!!!! Then ask his advice and take it. Take him along to view the pianos. And rememember you generaly get what you pay for . A ...

Butler Piano Movers might be worth a try. No ideal if they go that far and I guess it will cost a bit and you will have to wait some time. 01487833021 ask for Steve. I guess if you can find a general movers who wont smash it up for you it would be much cheaper to use them if they do regular runs to ...

Good technicians cost lots of money . You are correct but they would also save you money. One might have sugested on a piano like this to recover the hammers. Saving you I guess 2/3rds of that bill. Unless you know what you are doing you are risking problems with buying bits from here and there and...

No the key tops shouldnt over lap the sides. Who ever fitted them has just stuck a set of tops on and not finished the job. They have done about 1/4 to 1/3rd of the whole job. The leaning keys are either worn bushings or some times the keys can twist. Check the bushings to see if they are loose. It ...

If you are doing this for the fun of playing with a piano action thats fair enough however piano actions are made to tight tolerences. You cannot chisel a bit off here and a bit of there and hope it will work. Infact you cant chisel a bit of anywhere!! Rather than spend the £500 on bits, s...

The way I read it was that you should go to the local bricks and morter retailer. You should spend time playing his stock in his showroom and then ask him to match the price of a bedroom discounter. I have a showroom with £75Ks worth of acoustic stock. I just love it when someone comes in ...

The good thing about digital instruments is that once you try it in a shop, you can order them online at a good price and the quality will be the same. Interesting moral point of view!!!! Never mind keep it up because it will soon be like Yamaha accoustics. In some areas of the country if you want ...

I think Yamaha are also so popular because they are so heavily discounted. Does make you wonder what the numbers would be if they sold side by side with Kawai at the same price. Dont get me wrong they (Yamaha) are good kit but I think the price discount is the killer thing for most people that tips ...
