Re: How to dampen the sound on my upright piano?
The thing I found with my lovely Yamaha upright was that playing with the damper pedal was less than satisfying, which is why I went digital when I moved to a semi-detached house. Now I can play as loud as I like through headphones. The added bonus is that you can let all your inhibitions go, even i...

Re: 6 year old wants daddy to buy a digital piano
I would say look for a Yamaha P85 or similar - good basic piano with few frills, hence low cost, but will keep her happy for a good while if she takes to learning. You should find one easily on ebay or Preloved.

Re: piano buying advice please.. Gumtree and Ebay
SirTK, I wanted to buy a digital for the same reasons and also because we will be moving house in the next year. The piano teacher however insists on an acoustic piano from the beginning. Will have to rethink again. Too right you need to rethink - about getting a different teacher, who accommodates...

Re: piano buying advice please.. Gumtree and Ebay
On the other hand, lots of genuine people sell lots of very genuine items on ebay. Pianos are difficult because what you see outside is not necessarily a good indication of what it's really like. Taking a different tack, acoustic pianos have all kinds of downsides, like weight, maintenance, need of ...

Re: Prospective new owner !
Seniorminnion, I agree with everything you say, which is why I wanted to cry a warning, as I went through all of those emotions myself! The sound of an acoustic is lovely, but not through the practice pedal. What I found was that I didn't get anything like the satisfaction I was looking for through ...

"You don't need a plastic piano to play through headphones, you can have the best of both worlds with a silent piano"/i] 'Scuse me, my piano isn't plastic - it's genuine solid top quality living breathing MDF. So is the OP getting a silent K3? - if not, please note that all of my other - ...

Re: Prospective new owner !
Hmmmm - if you haven't yet pulled the trigger on your K3, I would wait a small while to consider what you want out of piano and why. If you intend to play "properly" and entertain your friends and family with your excellent playing, then an acoustic is a good choice - HOWEVER - that would ...

Re: Tempo question
Agreed Colin! My first stop was one of the many Vera versions on Youtube - she averaged about 44 though it was really hard to time it with the "Cadence BPM Tapper" as she seemed to be all over the place. I tried to blot out the voice and tap to the band but clearly they were adjusting to h...

Tempo question
A piece I'm learning says "Slowly minim=69" which doesn't seem at all slow to me, in fact my metronome rates it as "allegro". I reckon it should be moderato at about 58. Any opinions - it's White Cliffs of Dover. It's all a bit confusing for those of us who haven't much idea to s...

Re: Just bought a Roland FP8 and internal speaker sounds awf
It may be a feature of many digitals. My Yammy (CLP 470) sounds fantastic through good quality headphones but less good via its own speakers. As an experiment I just plugged in a cheap set of powered computer speakers, switched off its own speakers, and it sounded no worse. Surely it must be possibl...

Re: Yamaha Clavinova CLP 330
I'm by no means an authority but as nobody else has answered I'll stick my oar in. Firstly, I would suggest that only the really high-end digitals approach an acoustic for sound and especially feel. The best piano to emulate the sound and feel of an acoustic is an acoustic, and you should be able to...

Re: How does Kawai CE220 compare with Yamaha CLP440
James, I don't really know how the sound "live" compares as I played them all through 'phones (I'd be too embarrassed to let everyone in Chappells know how bad my playing is  ). I was mainly comparing the action, and the wooden keys (with fake ivory) tops of the 470 was just so much ...

Re: How does Kawai CE220 compare with Yamaha CLP440
I recently changed out my Yammy acoustic for a digital as my house move requires that I now play silently. I had picked out the CLP series and decided not to pay too much as I am no kind of pianist. So I tried a few, including the 440 which seemed fine. Then I tried the 470 standing next to it. Just...

Re: Beginner with P95
I'm sure you will love your P95. I did a lot of research for a dp about 3 years ago and ended up buying the P85 which was the current model at the time, now superseded by the P95. All I would say is that the quality of your headset makes a lot of difference. My "big" Sennheisers died a lit...

Yamaha can be so confusing with their ranges, model numbers etc. This summer I needed to buy a digital and was about to buy a P140 (having tried one out in Chappells) so I noted your interest in a YDP140, imagining it must be similar. However, it seems the YDP140 is a different beast from the P140, ...
