Re: Cost of a new Renner grand action with Dampers etc?

The guys are quite correct, Renner UK is a strictly trade only supply house. We have a list of Renner trained technicians around the country who have been trained at the Renner factory in the art of fitting a new action. If you let me know where you are and I will send you their details direct. Fitt...

Which part of Germany do you live. I have a few contacts in the BDK and can find a good technician for you.

Re: Quality used upright advice

OK guys but what about the Steingraeber & Söhne range of uprights??????? I think that their grands are better than S&S. Gone are the days where you could look at 8 model o's and 7 would be fantastic and one would be OK, now its 2 are fantastic and 6 are OK. If you are buying for the sound, t...

Re: Why no price disclosed

The reason that some supply houses mark parts such as brass castors POA is that the cost of the parts keep increasing due to the cost of raw materials. Piano wire and brass castors have increased in price 3 times a year over the last 2 years. As for pianos, I am guessing that when one dealer sets hi...

Re: Cost of action overhaul

The replacement parts idea is better value for money. Bechsteins are well known for having weak action parts. The best option for both piano and client is replacement.
As a member of both IMIT and PTA i know that there are some members that i would not trust to tune a radio.

Re: Cost of action overhaul

To be honest a piano of that age will require new hammers and shanks. Providing the instrument is in good condition I would also recommend the conversion from the tied action to that of the modern action. It is not an easy repair and would require an experienced technician who could re-calculate the...

Re: Bluthner Patent Shanks

Renner can supply new patent shanks, flanges and lightwieght hammers to keep the original touch and feel of the action. Or can supply a new keyboard and action to fully convert the piano to a roller action.
Talk to your tuner/technician for a quote.

I would take your family to play all of the instruments and let them make the deceision. I would also have a tuner inspect the instruments before purchase as well. Without looking and if I had to take a gamble, it would be the Bluthner. Hope this helps.

I would buy a hygrometer from B&Q (they cost £7.00) these digital gauges are very good. You need to keep the piano at 42% RH. I agree that the instrument should be checked by a humidity expert as it could become very messy if it is not delt with in he correct manner.

Sorry folks to enter the debate so late, but I am also doubtful as to the quality of the Polish work. This has be...

Yes I do, the trade has shrunk and will do so some more. The upright restoration business is now just down to stentimental work and the odd Steinway, Bluthner etc. But for me it is the grand work which is booming. Until there is a good grand made under 5k, that business will always be there. I must ...

Hi If the screws are too tight and will not move, I would put a soldering iron on each one for a short while and this should free them. Take care not to go too mad with the heat, and if you have the time I would file the burrs off of each screw as well to enable a better grip with the screwdriver. I...

Hi

I would say avoid E-Bay, it is the dumping ground for pianos which are "past their sell buy date"!
Speak to local dealers or tuners who may have a part exchange piano which they want to sell quickly.
Which area are you in and maybe I can recommend someone.
