Re: Piano Pricing

Sorry to interrupt these interesting comments but just to say I have recently purchased a Schimmel 130 T upright. Made in 1997 in perfect condition both inside and out. I paid £7500 which included a high quality adjustable stool and delivery from Dorset to London. The sale was made through a husband...

Re: Piano Pricing

The savings would have to be substantial and in some cases they are, but not always. Another oddity I noticed is; if one where to, for example, take a model line of Bechsteins and compare prices between here and Germany. Model A, perhaps £15,000 here and £12,000 there. A worthwhile saving indeed! Mo...

Re: Piano Pricing

Well the whole process is messy and annoying. I can see that's just the way it is for the many reasons involved. I'll have to check out the Zimmermanns. They are close to my budget. I really would like a £16,000 Bechstein, maybe five years old or so, selling for £10,000 and under. I noticed a (sadly...

Re: Piano Pricing

Interesting Barrie. As a customer I had no idea about the prepping situation. But then how would I? Since I'm merely a customer, far down the food chain and strictly on a 'need to know basis'. How do I know which stores prep and which do not? Anyway, your reply is helpful thanks. So there may be a £...

Re: Piano Pricing

Thanks for the bluebook tip. Really helpful.

And I am considering a trip to Germany. With the freight and airfares it'll still probably be cheaper to buy there, rather than here!

Piano Pricing

If only I was buying a Yamaha things would be so different. Apart from the sheer choice, especially in the second hand market, it's always easy to see how much the piano costs. But I'm looking for a German piano. As soon as a piano is over the 5000 pounds mark there is rarely a price given. I'm tire...

Re: Too Self Conscious

This really is an excellent site! The feedback has been very helpful. I mentioned my problem in regards embarrassment to my teacher and she tells me this is something I must overcome and she reminds me that I am the one paying. Thanks for the advice Cascade. I often fall apart when I'm playing for s...

bosendorfer 130 CL upright

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this piano.
I sometimes spot these rare beasts going for around £10,000 second hand, post 1970's.
They are supposed to be a bit special.
So would this be a good buy and are there inherent problems with owning such a piano?

Re: Too Self Conscious

My mistake rgreig. My typo and I can assure you the figure was £20,000. I even pointed out this huge price discrepancy to the showroom assistant quoting him the Thomann figure. I didn't think he was lying at the time. I just assumed he had no idea of the Bluthner model C price as new. But who knows?...

Re: Too Self Conscious

Thanks for your considered replies. In reply to 'rgreig' who gave me food for thought : You are right about the nearly new market being rather thin on the higher end makes. I did however spot a Bluthner Model C advertised on the Chamberlainmusic site priced at £9000. I'd never come across this outfi...

Re: Too Self Conscious

Mark, I like your style. But unfortunately I'm not a big fan of Yamahas. I'd be very happy to part with only 2000 pounds if I loved the piano so my budget is 'up' to 8000. I've tried a few shops selling both new and second hand. For me the Yamahas I played seemed almost neutral compared to when I ch...

Re: Too Self Conscious

Thanks for the reply. My teacher is too busy to help me out though. I'm not interested in selling the roland or part exchanging it. Really it was the mortal embarrassment of not being able to play piano at all well within earshot of a room full of musicians that caused me such unease. I was wonderin...

Too Self Conscious

Hi all. I'm a first time poster and I have a number of questions to ask about what piano to buy etc. The usual stuff. But I'll save that for later and outline an annoying problem/character trait I have first. I started taking piano lessons just before I turned fifty, so a late starter. I've been pla...
