Re: Books that teach technique?

Noooooooooo!!!! You'll NEVER learn them if they have the note names written in. Bit like a lot of kids can't do mental arithmetic because they rely on calculators. AGREE! Remember, it's not difficult to learn 12 notes, they just repeat themselves. Whatever happened to creating phrases with the word...

Re: looking to buy a piano

Ever considered a digital piano? Sure, for me the acoustic ones all the way, but I've recently purchase a Kawai digital - really excellent. Changed my thoughts of digital pianos.

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Are you referring to a difficulty in keeping the beat or understanding the rhythm written on the page?

Re: Changing piano teacer (again)

Although this isn't necessarily advice, when I was learning, I was often in the same boat. 15 months does sound too long however my piano teacher simply was an exceptional teacher and took my a while before he would enter me into graded exams.

Re: Gigging with a stereo digital piano

The most basic thing I did was straight from the headphone socket into a PA. Bear in mind that the piano wasn't the principal instrument in the ensemble at the time so it didn't particularly matter with it not having its own channels.

Re: Piano teaching

markymark,

I think your comment is good. In addition, the reputation of a good piano teacher can be advantageous. For many it is about building a base and won't happen immediately.

Re: Lessons to learn piano, who knows this course?

For someone testing the water then piano lesson software I think is OK but remember you will get what you pay for. Personally private tuition is going to be the best way but I understand that not everyone wishes to be taught the same way.

Re: Hand Pain

Maybe it does have something to do with your work and your previous accident. It was so long ago when I started to learn the piano that I can't remember if my hands hurt. Perhaps they did. I was lucky as I started at age 7/8 and I've been playing now for almost 30 years so the bone structures in my ...

Re: Are digital pianos nothing more than "toys"?

My digital piano is made from wood. Sure Synths and Keyboards are plastic, and personally I don't tend to them, but there are many digital pianos which in my opinions are much better, easier, and nicer to play than some acoustic ones. However, I still can't find a piano to beat the Steinway.
