Biography

Halyna Ovcharenko was born in Ukraine. After graduating in Piano, Composition, Theory of Music from Kiev Academy of Music. she continued her study in Poland in 1991 and England. In 2002 she received a Doctorate from the University of Bristol.

She is a winner of International Competitions 1992, 1995, 2004 In 1992 she also received National Prize for the best composition for choir. Her Invocation of Rain was short-listed by Society of Promotion of New Music as a one of the best works in year 2004. This work also was performed in many countries UK, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Ukraine.
In 2005 she was a composer in residence at the VICC in Sweden

Amongst her works are pieces for solo instruments, ensembles, choirs, chamber and symphony orchestras, music for theatre and documentary film.
Her two ballets The Last Battle after C.S. Lewis and Kupala’s Night after Gogol were successfully performed at the West End in London, and Ljubliana’s National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
She commissioned to write music for Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London BBC Symphony Orchestra, for ensembles and soloists.
