Joanne Louise B. Mus (hons), PG Cert, ABRSM Grade 8 (merit)

Classically trained pianist with a passion for teaching. I trained at Birmingham University and Conservatoire and worked for several years as a performer, both in the UK and the Channel Islands. I am now a full time music teacher. As I am in my early twenties, I have an excellent reslationship with my students as they feel that children can relate to me in a way they may find difficult with other tutors. The most important thing to me is that children enjoy their learning; my lessons are fun and relaxed, examinations are optional and students can choose the music they play, the children are encouraged to learn a variety of styles, however they are not forced to learn something they do not wish to do. I have experience with children from age four and upwards and am equally happy to teach adults!

I specialise in teaching children with special educational and emotional needs, particularly autism. Music lessons often provide a medium for communication for children experiencing such difficulties. I am currently writing a research paper on Autism due to be published in 2010.

As a rule I would require all students to have access to some sort of keyboard instrument because they need to practice. I teach from my own premises at All Souls Church in Coventry, and all lessons are taught on a brand new Bentley Baby Grand Piano.

The most important thing to me is that my students enjoy their learning, and once they are one of my pupils, they have my personal assurance that I will do everything in my power to ensure this happens.
