I have been teaching piano to adults and children since 1983 and take students from beginners to Grade 8 for piano and theory. The emphasis is on playing for enjoyment and developing confident musicianship as well as good playing technique. Playing from ear and improvisation are encouraged together with music reading skills. Exams are optional. I have some experience in teaching people with visual impairment and learning disabilities.
I qualified as a teacher in 1989 with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) as a music specialist for ages 7 to 12.
My special interest is composition and I was awarded an MA in Composition in 1998.
My fees are £34 per hour pro rata for 2012 - 2013. I offer an initial consultation lesson. If you decide to go ahead with regular tuition I then ask for payment for one term's lesson in advance, or for the remainder of the term's lessons if part way through a term.
I teach at my home in Teddington (6 mins walk from Teddington station and on bus routes 33 and R68) and parking is free along the road wherever you can find a space.
