Catherine Colston BA (Hons) in Music, Grade 8 Piano, Violin and Theory

I believe music should be fun – it doesn’t matter if you want to go through the grade system or if you simply want to be able to play for your own pleasure - I aim to make all lessons enjoyable and suit the individual student.

Music is a very good skill to acquire regardless of your age. In addition to the attainment of musical skills, learning an instrument helps develop your organisational skills as you learn to juggle practise time along with homework (or work for my older students!) and other social activities.

I am a graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire with a BA (Hons) in Music as well as Royal Schools of Music Grade VIII in Violin, Piano and Theory.

During the last few years I have been playing with local Sheffield folk band Jacks Rake. (www.jacksrake.co.uk)

Lessons are generally 30 minutes in length for beginners up to Grade V if you only wish to have practical tuition. This can be increased to 45 minutes if you also want to learn theory as well. As you reach the higher grades then lessons need to be longer to cover all the material and so an hour is necessary.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!
