Rockwood Piano Studio LLSMD (Dist), CT MusT

I am a qualified, experienced and friendly teacher, offering piano lessons at my home studio in Thornhill, North Cardiff. I teach beginners, grades and adults. My studio is equipped with a Kawai K25 Special Edition upright piano and a large library of tutor books, sheet music and music reference books for lesson/student use.

My lessons are fun and upbeat and are based around the learning style of the student. I am a very patient and understanding teacher and my teaching style incorporates the psychology of learning to help the student learn more easily and at a faster pace than otherwise might be achieved.

My unique teaching method ensures success each time you play. Students develop a firm understanding of the fundamentals of music & piano playing, and become excellent sight readers, from the very beginning. Students are taught how to practice effectively. This does not involve hours of the students time - quite the reverse in fact! The beauty of my method is that the student continues to progress even while they sleep!! Students are given instruction in performance technique, reading notation, aural training, sight-singing, theory, sight-reading, composition, improvisation and music history. Many musical styles are covered over the course of lessons, including Classical, Popular, and Jazz.

I hold a current UK Advanced CRB Check and am also fully Garda vetted (Irish CRB).

I attend music/piano related courses, workshops & meetings regularly to maintain my high level of commitment to my teaching. I am a full member of EPTA UK.

I am very thorough in my preparation of students for exams (practical and theory) and have an excellent record of exam results. My approach to exams is such, that students enjoy the process and look forward to the exam.

I am an organised and professional teacher whose main focus is on the students enjoyment of music. I work hard to ensure the learning process is relaxed and interesting, yet thorough.

I organise group classes and family recitals. These events offer students the opportunity to experience all the benefits of peer learning and performance. During the course of lessons, I explore the issues involved when performing and students are taught how to deal effectively with performance anxiety. All students are expected to partake in the group classes and recitals, no matter at which level they are studying, and all students are fully prepared for the performance so the event is always a positive experience for them. Group classes are usually held once a term, with family recitals usually being an annual event.

Please contact me if you are interested in learning more about my lessons. Many thanks, Anne McHugh.
