After leaving school, Julia studied piano in Edinburgh with Audrey Innes, winning prizes at the local festival and gaining LRAM diplomas in both piano teaching and performing. She was also awarded a scholarship to study in Vienna. On her return to the UK she started teaching piano, and performed in venues as diverse as Edinburgh, the Middle East and Bedford.

She is an accomplished classical pianist and teaches all levels from beginners to advanced Royal Schools of Music Grade 8 in the relaxing environment of her home in Clapham, Bedfordshire. She also prepares students for the performing sections of Diplomas. She carefully structures her lessons according to the student's requirements and abilities, focussing on patient encouragement so that the pupil finds enjoyment and a sense of achievement in their music.

She has a gentle approach which has been frequently commented on by pupils, particularly the younger ones.

Julia is also an accomplished accompanist.

During her time in Edinburgh Julia was rehearsal pianist for a performance of Puccinni's 'Manon Lescaut' and the accompanist for a very talented local violinist.

Since then she has been accompanist for a variety of instrumentalists including singers, trumpet, oboe, flute, saxophone, 'cello and others, and she has established a reputation as being a very sensitive and sympathetic player.
