I'm a specialist Jazz piano teacher based in Greenwich. I have an MMus(Distinction), DipRAM and Benjamin Doniger Award from the Royal Academy Of Music and a First Class BMus from Kings College London. I have an extensive teaching and performing history. Previous students of mine have gained entry to the BMus Jazz Studies Course and Junior Jazz Course at the Royal Academy Of Music. My teaching experience includes having taught for the Richmond Music Trust, Aylesbury Music Centre and Brent Music Service, as well as having taught privately for many years. I also currently teach the EDEXCEL A-Level music syllabus in one-to-one classes at Duff Miller Independent Sixth Form college in Kensington.

Whilst at the Royal Academy of Music I studied under the tutelage of jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock and classical pianists Pascal Nemirovski and Colin Stone. As a jazz musician I have already performed with many respected national and international jazz artists including US Bass Virtuoso Janek Gwizdala and Stan Sulzmann. I have supported Benny Golson at Ronnie Scotts and have been described by Classic FM presenter Helen Mayhew as “one of the brightest young stars in the jazz piano galaxy, a heavenly improviser and a brilliant prospect for the future,” and by Time Out as “gifted”. I have just produced an album with my quartet ‘Aquarium’ which showcases my own compositions. Of the album Rory Simmons has said, “Sam’s music brings together all that is right about not just contemporary Jazz but also new music” whilst Phil Robson has described it as “a strong and melodic debut,” and John Taylor has called it “A Fine Achievement.” Aquarium features BBC Jazz Award winners: James Allsopp and Joshua Blackmore alongside Mercury award nominated bassist Calum Gourlay and myself on piano.

I am also able to teach classical piano, theory, composition and guitar lessons if required.
