Rachel Billings BMus [Hons], GRNCM, PgDip

Experienced piano teacher, pianist and author (see www.aaronpublications.co.uk). Welcomes all ages and abilities - for graded examinations or just for fun! Everyone is different, and lessons will be structured according to your individual needs. Some may wish to learn at a steady pace (simply for relaxation and enjoyment), whilst others may desire more intensive training. Rachel believes in the importance of having a solid foundation and therefore technical instruction plays a key part. Other essential elements are taught such as music history, music theory, aural. Memorization of pieces is encouraged to improve aural/listening skills. Students are given much opportunity to perform in music festivals and concerts (where they also benefit from hearing other students play, and receive feedback/marks from external musicians/ adjudicators).

Practical exams are optional (Rachel advises students enter for Grade 5 and Grade 8 but leave out the grades in between [since students should know far more besides the requirements of the grades]). However theory exams are highly recommended and helpful (100% pass rate for all exams taken). If needed, you can work towards ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall Grade exams in theory and performance, A-level performance or exams, GCSE performance or exams, or any other structured learning you would like.
