Is this the new phpBB3 format I was showing you on my forum?

I like the features (from an admin's perspective) and quite intuitive to set up and manage.

No I'm not an admin - Barrie is the only site admin. Usually these types of message boards only have one - stops power wars. I'm still a moderator and have all the same moderator functions (even though my rank still says "Persistent Poster") but all the moderators at the moment seem to be in the same boat, being displayed as blue.

I've heard a lot of other people having problems transferring their phpBB2 forums across to the phpBB3 format. At least you were able to preserve all your custom features like rank images for example. Some folks weren't able to load these onto their new forums either. You've done a good job getting it to this stage. It's getting all the finishing touches now that'll be the time killer!

There have been a few little bugs but still, I hear to security side of things is much better in this format. Lots of new features.

I have temporarily closed mine down for now pending webhost arrangements.

The rank images came across but have not tagged themselves to all of the moderators I have even redone yours. The indexing is taking for ever 9 hours so far we are up to step 24300 and the rate has gone up to 16 post a second must take for ever on a very big board

At the moment the 404 page is getting some hammer as the old board had html on the end if you were not loged in have had to do some 303s to redirect some of the popular parts.

As to yours I would look at some hosting in the UK and put the board on there at least you will have some control be careful for the host that offer free domains some of them put it in there name and charge your rent if you move off their servers You own ISP may have some web space that you can uses

That is very slow. Would temporarily closing the forum not speed things up? As for the rank images, just goes to show that there must be something wrong in the phpBB3 format somewhere 'cos you're not the only one having probs there! The free host I am using won't offer ranks images yet!

I am looking into UK hosting for my own forum which is why I have closed it and haven't done much more to it since we were talking about it last. I have found one with a good bandwidth offer, not the rhetorical "unlimited bandwidth" offer that means nothing. They say that if they can not accomodate the traffic coming to your website, that they will stop your service and refund your total fee. However, that is a very unusual situation, being so confident about their service. We'll see anyway.

Bandwidth can be a problem in the UK we use 40g a month but that is for the site as a hole. You may have noticed that the forum is getting less overseas post we have restricted the number of calls per second that can be made to the site for some overseas IP blocks. The site is run with 8 databases and 1000 ish static pages, The databases can put a big strain on the CPU when the site has a lot of visitors doing this has speeded up the site up for UK visitors at the expense of overseas visitors when we go over 5000 visitors a day.

The bandwidth issue is really a discouraging point which is why I'm putting more serious thought into what I'm planning. Including a website means having something meaningful so that it's not just an expensive hobby.

How are things coming together? Was the usergroups tab was you were looking for?

So long as your not saying any words that rhyme with 'duck', you'll be doing rightly!

The tab worked on some but not other's

Other forum admins seem to say 20g is the cut off point for most unlimited UK ISP But moving a big board can be a pain. When we moved this one two years ago and its not big by some we moved from VI to Gradwell it was not too bad but only because you can run Bigdump on Gradwell
