Is the uk-piano.org name being ditched in favour of piano-tuners.org?

When I search google for "uk piano forum" it displays the URL uk-piano.org as the first results but when I click it I get redirected to piano-tuners.org

Is this for SEO reasons?

It's because some :oops: decided to hack the site, so Barrie has changed it. If you need long words and computer terms, ask Barrie, but that's the idiot's (mine!) guide!

No the problem was the security of the server we were using. The site got hacked a number of times and then the server hosting our website got hacked several times which has caused some upheaval, particularly on the forum with the loss of some content with the interruption.

The old URL will continue to be there for a few months until the Search Engines update themselves. This is normal.

The change of domain was going to happen this year also a move to a Virtual server, yes Mark it is SEO reasons for the name change as the site main object is to get work for the member of the ABPT the rest is just a + for users.

However, we were going to do this in August when I had more time. BUT and a big But our providers not us got hacked, (which is still on going to fix all the problems ) 5 times in all in December. Resulting in the site being down more than it was up. This ruined our placement in goggle as the site was displaying 404s and at one point we were listed as a Malicious Website Not good so we moved it forward.

At the same time we made some changes to the HTML code moving form <tables> to <div> and nested them so the the main info is above the links to the left like we had in the tables again this was done to help Blind visitors but also has SEO benefits This is ongoing

We upgrade the Pianos for Sale by the General Public software we just deleted the old one and started form fresh.

We intend to revamp the Piano Shops section giving each shop its own page

there will be other changes to come

PR as this is a concern to some of our advertisers no panic needed the domains we own about 30 domains at present the PR will move over to the piano-tuners.org form the uk-piano.org ect some parts of the site is has been done

as we have been ruining piano-tuners.org for a few year in the background it has its own back links anyway

Google is now putting more importance on back links in topical articles than just links on a page

Cool.
I agree the new domain is better than the old one.
5-10 years ago it made sense to have "UK" in your domain but these days I'd say less people bother putting UK in their search phrase because google is now clever enough to deliver local results based on IP address.

It's not just piano tuners that use this page though, as the name may imply. What about the database of teachers, people are more likely to go to musicteachers.co.uk as surely they'll think we are just some sort of resource for tuners. The tuners' facilities make up a viable, but nonetheless small part of our page and I would have thought ukpianopage.com or similar would be a more relevant URL.

Hmm interesting but you be surprised most folk who are surfing don't look at the url the just see what Google put there way at the top

Next October we will know as I use the 1 to the 6 of oct a a bench mark in the last 4 years it has been around 16,000 unique visitors in 6 days or 800,000 visitors last year jan 2010 to dec 2010 down on the year before

I never thought of it that way before but it may also explain why very few people contribute to the non-tuner related forums...

I'm surprised I never saw it that way before. When I read "UK Piano Page", all things piano-related was always my understanding. Granted, I have no personal interest in the piano tuning realm and so am glad not to be moderating any of those forums, there is actually very little else on the webpages not related to piano tuning.

If I'm being very honest, I can't see the point in having these forums on this site if piano tuning is being portrayed as the main thrust behind the site. They will never get the attention they deserve which being dismissed as a piano tuner forum.

well the site as a whole is up on visitors , as to post to the forum they are also up

most site that have a theme to them and then have a forum the subject matter will get more post than a chit chat room
