I was wondering if anyone had heard or could tell me a little bit about Mayell Piano's. I am under the impression that they are British made but i am unable to find anything about them on the net no matter what i try to search under.

I had an email from Juliette, whose ancestor Walter Mayell made pianos in Walthamstow, East London, where I grew up. Other than that, there are some modern pianos with the name Anthony Mayell.

I am also trying to find out about Mayell pianos. I have seen a couple for sale recently but I cannot find any information about them. The piano I have seen is a modern, mahogany, upright piano, overstrung, underdamped with a Schwander mechanism. I am told it is English and in good working order but I am not sure whether it is worth paying for a technician to take a look or not. I would not consider buying anything without advice as I know very little about pianos, but I dont want to waste my money.

It always seems to me that when one is buying a musical instrument, information means nothing, what is needed is a musical assessment of the instrument by someone who can play, and a technical assessment by a technician. No information we can supply will tell you what you need to know, but as far as age is concerned, have a look at the Datemarks page at http://www.pianogen.org

If it's not worth paying a technician, it's not worth buying it.

I recently bought a Mayell piano. It was riddled with moth, and the keys had to be relaid completely. The action, though, remains clear of moth, despite infestation in everything else! It appears to be a Wakefield Spencer - the veneers on the panel edges had to be reglued in several places, exactly characteristic of the Spencer. It's a good piano, though, with a Schwander action.
I wonder if Anthony Mayell bought out the WF outfit.

We have a modern Antony Mayell piano in stock it is 35 years old and in very good condition,its basically a Kemble piano,all British parts and Schwander action,its a very nice looking and sounding piano with very little use,there are a few piano names out there that where not built by the main English makers in the last 50 years,but hundreds of names and many different cabinet styles.
