Count me in Dave, as previously discussed.
I am also diabetic type 2, diagnosed in my early 30's, can't remember exactly when. Started just on sensible eating, but have been taking one tablet a day for a few years now.
My levels are pretty good on the whole but the doctor/nurse always says I would be doing much better if I lost weight and did some exercise.
So I am happy to weigh in on New Years Day and disclose my weight, as long as I'm not on my own.
I have been trying to be good for a few weeks, wanted to get a head start before the xmas eats and have lost a few pound, but we all know what will happen in the next two weeks.

Hey Guys, I think I've found the answer! Party till you drop every night and you burn it off as quick as you eat it! Seems to be working for me, anyway
We've got 20+ coming tonight for a leftovers party so we're likely to burn it off before we even start today, by time we've got the house looking less like a demolition site!

39? Pah! A mere youngster! I'm 48 and going strong!
Party calories don't count if you're at someone else's place - guest calories are nul and void, so I work on the basis if I only eat guest's offerings when they come to a leftovers party, they count as guest calories too! Well, it's a theory, anyway.

Hey, fellow piano slimmers! I just read this thread for the first time and I share the love! Earlier this year I was horrified when I needed a 40-inch waist. I’ve found Weight-Watchers to be a total pain in the arsular region, so I went for broke and joined the local gym. I still don’t do nearly enough but I’ve built-up to three 45-minute sessions each week on a combination of cross-trainer, treadmill, rowing machine and weights. It’s definitely helping and I’d encourage anyone trying to lose weight to give it a go.
I was the last person on God’s wide earth who ever thought they’d darken the doors of a gym but it was well worth the initial embarrassment. I thought the place would be full of rippling muscle-men (and there are some, of course) but mostly it’s just people like me trying to shift some wobble.
And now for the real toughie – I stopped drinking earlier this month
Yes, really. I was drinking on average a bottle per night, which is obviously bad all-round
but also a bottle is around 500 calories (or roughly a quarter of the recommended calorie intake for a geezer). I was struggling to resist the urge to open a bottle right now, but reading this thread has given me more motivation so I’ve poured the bloody stuff down the sink. WE CAN DO IT!!!!!

I really love the cross-trainer! It almost feels like you're having way too much fun to be exercising at all... that is until you walk past any reflective doors or glass and realise that Hellboy isn't releasing another film - it's just you walking around with a face like the moon!

Hello Dave
Hope you and Mrs Brum are well. I am not very good with change so will take me a few goes to get used to the new look site. Did you receive the p.m. about facebook as I can't see a reply, will miss the chats, but I will have to get used to posting again.
Shame you don't feel like dieting at the moment. I am sure you will get back into the swing of it. January is a funny time of year, can be a bit depressing.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Just concentrate on the decorating, eschew the ladder, then you'll get taller, your height/weight ratio will improve and therefore you will have - technically - lost weight. Viola!
I'm so glad you say that about Facebook, Dave; I can't work it out either. Thanks - you've made me feel much better1

I play for my own amazement...

Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
Decorating the house provides you with a great workout and you're bound to lose weight - provided you don't replenish with all the wrong stuff! I have a mate who used to be 22 stone but despite being 6'2'', he looked it and had a huge spare tyre you could bounce pennies off! He carried a lot of weight all over his body - chest, waist, arms, legs. You must be very tall because you don't look anything like a 20 stone man!dave brum wrote:
Well, the sheer thought of the immense scale of manual work in front of me has not only made me think 'how can a big twenty stone lump of whale blubber like moi climb ladders and paint in all the nooks and crannies??'
I used to have a Hi5 account but it was such a boring setup that I cancelled my account.
Not that fussed on Facebook either. Myspace is so much better.
Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
Go for it Dave - new house, new start, new you!

Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
Yes, I've been even more manically busy than usual and so far this year has been every bit as dire as I thought it would be, hence the absence, sorry! My weight is pretty much as it should be now so the maintenance side of it kicks in from here, whooppee! I've lost just over 7 stone and am a size 10/12 so now I'm surrounded by people telling me not to lose any more -can't win, can we?! I shall be behind you every step of the way, dear boy - good luck!
Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
Indeed I did! Loose skin is a problem but hey, it comes with age anyway and is a lot easier to disguise than excess inches!
Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
Absolutely, and thank you! How is the lovely Mrs B?
Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
How are the lessons going?
Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
Yep. I'm off air for a while now - I'm still trying to get this wretched cross stitch finished in time for my parent's golden anniversary so it's off to the stitching frame for me for the rest of the evening. I'll check out the blog a bit later. Ttfn

When you find out let me know!dave brum wrote: Right then, losing weight. How to stop weighing the same as a piano then...
Though I should start running again. That'll help. Mind you any new exercise regime means a new injury or illness to pick up.

Running? Far too energetic imho! I go for a brisk walk three times a week (kiddies and weather permitting!) and built it up slowly. I also stuff myself with all the things I am "allowed" and try to avoid the naughties. Getting the mind set is the major battle won - once you've got it the rest is much easier. (And I know it's a LOT easier said than done!)
Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
I believe nearly any expert you ask will tell you the whole issue with yo-yo dieting is the psychology bit of it. Personally, I think naughty food is every bit as addictive as tobacco or alcohol. Getting it off is one thing, keeping it off is quite another

Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
If there was anything at all behind the saying "It's the thought that counts" I'd be laughing - eating chocolate would melt away the pounds and maintain a size 8 figure

Inside every fat woman is a skinny woman crying to be let out.
I ate her...

I play for my own amazement...

My wedding photos provide more than ample coverage of the "before" but I haven't got around to the "after" photos yet - that will probably happen at my parent's Golden Anniversary lunch next month.(I always did do things backwards!) I do, however have the pair of trousers I wore to my first Weight Watchers meeting last year so one of these days I'll put them on just for a giggle and see how many paces I can take before they end up around my ankles!I can strongly recommend WW's Belgian chocolate mousse - only 2 points and seriously scrummy!dave brum wrote:Hope you've managed to provide a Before and After photo just for the benefit of Weight Watchers, Cel!
Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
Wahoo!
Well done, old bean! That's over half a stone in a fortnight, well done. I've found having a three year old who wakes you up at 3 in the morning is another good (though thoroughly unrecommended) way of shifting the pounds - it means you're on the go 24/7! Keep it up.

Hopefully that's where the similarity between us ends, Know wot I mean, Harry?!

Thinking I now need to start slimming/exercise asap. I'm running out of trousers that fit.

Re: Piano Lounge Slimmers circle
Well done again! Mine dropped another 2lbs this week but I think that was down to yanking out the weeds with gusto and demolishing a bike shed with a hammer in a sweltering 28 degrees! Keep it up! Everything else all ok with you guys?
