Yamaha YDP S30

Post by scarbies »

Hi

I recently purchased the above digital piano. It works 100% but I cant get the thing to send MIDI events to my PC.

I have been using a Evolution MK-125 MIDI controller for years that uses a MIDI to Joystick (DIN 5 to DSUB 15) cable {that it came with} and it works perfectly on any channel!! Checked via FL STudio and Cubase SX.

As soon as I plug this cable into my S30s MIDI OUT nothing happens. Ive checked with software called MIDI Monitor but only my Evolution sends events. Ive connected it to my PC and rebooted but no luck.

I reset the Yamaha keyboard to factory defaults. Ive manually configured it to send events on channel 1 (and all other channels), tinkered with note velocities but cant get it to work?? Ive set it up to send MIDI. Its definitely configured to be sending MIDI..

The manual suggests using a Yamaha USB-MIDI adaptor but surely MIDI is a standard and I can use it straight into my MIDI interface of my SB Live?

If it works for the Evolution but not the Yamaha it cant be settings on my PC? Its the same cable?

Any ideas or similar issues?

Cheers

I have had similar problems connecting my CP300 to a computer. I can use it for music editting software like Finale or Sibelius but I have not been able to use it with a music production software.

This seems to be a fairly common problem with MIDI users and Yamaha keyboards and I too would have thought that a generic MIDI cable would have been fine.

I'd advise you to do what I am doing after this message, and contacting Yamaha directly for advice. The brochures are not really helpful for troubleshooting MIDI. :(

solved the issue with a MIDIMATE

http://www.esi-audio.com/products/midimate/

although Im sure any USB-MIDI interface (or new soundcard {ive got an 8 year old SB Live}) would work!

good luck and enjoy guys!

Sill haven't hear back from Yamaha. However, as far as the ESI MIDImate cable is concerned, Dolphin Music are selling it at £20 if you are interested.

Follow this link to go to the page:

Absolute Music Solutions are also stocking it for the same price:
