Yamaha DGX-650 vs YDP-142

Post by rowny »

Hello everyone:)

I'm a piano beginner and I want to buy one. I can't decide between these two. They're the same price in my local shop. I like the more classical look of the YDP-142, also it has pedals. On the other hand, DGX-650 has a display and more sounds...though I only need the piano ones and I don't know what's the display for. I want to play classical pieces, so I'm not interested in drums and synths.

Please help me decide :)

I would forget all about model numbers & letters.... they are just model references for spec differences. Either are ok for beginner.
For just general playing/ no lessons, either are OK.
If you intend to have piano lessons & learn the classical way properly, then always buy a piano with properly mounted pedals X 3 incorporated into the cabinet (i.e. left soft / middle sostenuto/ right sustain).
Avoid those plug-in sustain pedals on a wire.... unless gigging/ travelling.

You won't use the pedals just yet, but after about 6 months' tuition, the right pedal is used.
The plug-in versions work OK, but it will slide about on the floor & very off putting.
