Are big pianos louder?

Post by janetwilson »

If I buy a big upright, will it be louder in my flat than a small upright, when played in the same way?
(I know I can get a better fff from a big upright if I want to... but what I need to know is... will it sound too lound all the time... I live in a flat so don't want a piano which is too loud....)

It's like buying a big car; just because it can do 160mph doesn't mean it can't do 10mph. You'll adjust your touch to your new instrument, and soon find out where the louds and softs are. The bigger piano will give you a better tonal quality, whether the note be quiet or loud. Enjoy it!
