Asbestos in piano

Post by Nathanj99 »

Hi

Can you give me some advice please. My girlfriend has just had a old piano delivered from relatives. It’s a Raymond & Co dating around 1920’s. Is there any chance there will be asbestos inside it? Things like hammer felt etc. The fabric covering the back has been torn.

Thank you

No; hammer felt is made of...felt! The worst you'll find is mothproofing stuff which has probably lost its efficacy years ago.
I play for my own amazement... :piano;

Stand corrected, sorry! Also look out for DDT in moth proofing paper strips, which I encountered once.
