How Much is My Piano Worth?

Post by JAW »

Hi folks,

I realise that this is difficult question to answer without inspecting the specific model, but I just want a general opinion - I have inherited a piano from my uncle, an upright Gebruder Schulze, and the person at the storage place told me that pianos are hardly worth anything these days (unless a particularly valuable model), and that to be honest you might have to pay someone to take it off your hands.

Is there any truth in this - is it worth me getting it tuned and trying to sell it, keeping it in storage in the meantime, or should I just give it/sell v. cheaply to the nearest taker?

I do play but have no space for a piano at the moment, so the other alternative is to keep it in storage until I have a bigger house!

Many thanks for your time,
JAW

Might be worth keeping hold of after what I have read about them in the past.
Check the spelling of the piano name.... must be spelt correctly.
Valuation can only be done by a face-to-face appointment, checking the piano properly.
Some piano tuners don't do valuations, so best to check.
Tuning a piano doesn't increase its value, but may sell better.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your help - much appreciated! I have now arranged for a tuner to come and value it...

Kind regards,
Jason
