What is wave memory and why is it important?

Wave memory is the amount of memory available for storing piano samples. The more memory you have the more samples you can store for each key, i.e. separate samples for different velocities, stereo (see FAQs), sustained notes and lately, also sympathetic samples of adjacent strings during sustain and key off samples. The more memory, the more realistic the sound is, or at least should be! Current high end digital pianos and stage pianos have between 64Mb and 128Mb of wave memory.
