'Piano in the Parlour' book

Post by jmacg »

Members of this forum may be interested in my book on domestic piano history called 'Piano in the Parlour'. It looks at times before 1930 when the piano was the principal home entertainment centre. Though based on the New Zealand experience, much of that experience was universal to English-speaking countries. As well as looking at the developments in NZ (including some very interesting stories), it looks at piano types and makes, the piano 'service industries' and describes the music they played. This includes actual music for 16 parlour favourites. Reasons for the piano's relative decline are discussed. More information on the web at www.ngaiopress.com/piano.htm
