Has anyone heard of George Healey??

Post by ukidu »

I was given an upright piano and I can't find out anything about it. I can tell you it has a metal plate with the name George Healey 34 Brook Street New Rd Near Fitzroy London. Inside the top lid is a signature of a George Healey and a date of 1898. Has anyone ever heard of this maker? Thanks

Yes, I certainly have some information on George Healey, although later pianos just named "Healey" are a mystery at the moment. George was (apparently) making pianos in the 1840s at Brook Street, and possibly into the 1850s. I would be very interested to see photos of the piano, if you have any. They can be emailed to me at pianogen.org

I've had another look, George Healey is not listed as a piano maker by 1860, and was certainly not in the London directory, Brook Street or otherwise, by 1892, so the 1898 date is probably wrong. I'm intrgued!

Thanks Bill for your reply. Were are taking pictures and will forward shortly. Looking further on the inside body of the piano the name F. Molineaux or Molinellx (hard to tell) with the number 1237 underneath. Does that help?

George Healey / Molineux

Nolineux could be an action maker, or someone who worked for Healey.

I have a drawing of a George Peachey Piccolo Pianoforte dated 1845, which is a very similar view to your photo, if you would like to see it, press the email button.

The trouble is, people keep asking me for my email address, because they can't find it on the forum, although it seems easy to me!
