age of our Gerhard Adam piano

Post by eric.beckers »

Hello Sir,
I got from my mother a Gerhard Adam piano nr.: 15594

In the piano is written:

Pianoforte Fabrik
Wesel
gegründet 1828
nr.: 15594
beim Kaiserl. Patentaat eingetragene Warenzeichen

around this text are several pictures from the German Kaiser printed.

What I assume from the serialnumber is that this piano might bebuild somewhere from 1850 to 1860.

is this a correct time periode or can you give me a almost correct date.

thanks for reply.

My understanding is that this number represents 1908, but without photos, I can't say if this is likely. The pictures of the kaiser may be exhibition medals, have a look at

This seems quite likely to be a 1908 piano. Originally, it would have been much darker polish, and I suspect there would have been some decorative work on the front, rather than plain wood.

I can't see the details of the medals, but it would be interesting to know what years they refer to.

Why do you think this? Can you please enlarge on your comment, clearly stating why you believe this Gerhard Adams piano is later than the estimated 1908 date provided by Bill - who after all is an expert in this domain.
I'm sure I'm not the only one to have observed that the 'information' given in practically all your posts to date have been copied and pasted from diverse information readily available on commercial internet sites, which effectively raises questions on some of your replies and motives.
By all means please continue to post here if you can genuinely provide piano-related feedback based on your own practical experience. Anyone can 'Google' and come up with identical comments to most of those you have provided so far.
I was playing the piano in a zoo, when the elephant burst into tears. I said, "Don't you recognize the tune?" He replied, "No, I recognize the ivories!"
