Well that was one heck of a polava. Went in for a flu jab, ended up with a free ride in an ambulance thrown in. Just got back now...and I'm on earlies in the morning.

I fell unconscious about a minute after having it. No heart issue - just shock and an over reaction to the vaccine in my system. My blood pressure plummeted briefly.

Blimey, the things people do for a ride in an ambience. Did they put the woowoos on? Are you allergic to eggs? They always ask me that before they stab me. Are you better now?

No woowoos. I used to have a fear of needles though. They kept asking me if I had any chest pains as the heart monitor readings they got suggested that I was in pain. Cardiologist however confirmed it, I was not having a heart attack, was just how my own system reacted to the vaccine. I should have sat down for at least 10 minutes before I moved off. Trouble was, it was in a supermarket pharmacy and it was very hectic.

Have to admit that's why I stick to the surgery for mine. They have a mighty production line;in front door, hand in letter, get ticket, roll up sleeve, WHAM! Sit down if wobbly. Then out the back door. I suggested that we roll up our right sleeve, cruise up to the nurse, hand in letter, cruise up to next nurse, get stabbed and drive out of the car park exit. The nurses quite liked my idea of drive by stabbings but the docs weren't so keen.

It is common practice after the flu jab to experience a short burst of flu symptoms for a short time. Bad diarrhoea at the moment.

I haven't heard that godawful Rod Stewart piffle in work today or yesterday. I am hoping that the machine that operates our in store radio station has decided (on our behalf) that four months of playing it every day is long enough. We might even get some more stuff going cheap that'll entertain us on a daily basis through till next March.

We've had something for about eight weeks or so daily by a band called Blossoms entitled 'Charlemagne'. Here it is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBtVjjLtEY8

First time since Steely Dan that that French king's title has been used.

I heard that on Ken Bruce on R2; I thought they were rather good.

I wasn't sure if they were called Blossoms or Bottoms though. Or even Bosoms.

My close friend in work was actually named after this song from 1985:

I know a girl called Jessamine (sp?) after the 60s hit by the Casuals. Not that she herself would ever listen to it!

Wonder if there'll be any Charlemagnes born, or whether any chav (i.e white, lower class, uneducated, gullible and aggressive) parents will think it's a female name...

There are even some children, both chav and human, called Ayda. Not Ada, as in what your old granny might had been called (or in my case, my aunt).

Robbie Williams' wife is called Ayda, I think. But I expect that's the least of her problems.

Tried to play all of this morning's hymns on the piano at church from easy-ish music and right hand only. Sounded bl00dy awful. :D Exactly why I've given up playing the blithering thing in the first place.

Keep having a go now and then though. Play Hydrofoil or Cwm Rhondda!

Don't think so. No more silly trumped up pianistic delusions for me. Well, why bother with making things difficult for yourself, eh?

Interestingly enough, as there was no church service at our usual church today, we had to go to our sister church, which is based on a 1960s slum clearance area. There is someone who goes there who used to have piano lessons from Mabel Mucklethwaite, but gave up many years ago.

Bet she couldn't cope with her pushiness.

The Lieutenant Kijé Suite by Prokofiev is what we're talking about. It was originally written for a film but the 'Troika' movement was used as the bridge in the pop song 'I Believe In Father Christmas' by Greg Lake, which as of today (15th October) I have not heard on the instore radio station at work:

In the song by Cliff Richard ' I Could Easily Fall in Love With You' between the A-woo x 8 and Cliff's opening vocal, it sounds like a big fat redneck with a beer belly shaped like the top of St.Pauls Cathedral giving his prized possession a quick double slap.

As I have a piano that I cannot use for its intended purpose, I was wondering what such an item could be used for? I already mentioned on another thread the idea of using one to make out you have style and class (a-la Hyacinth Bucket) or as a safe asylum that cats could either sleep on or sleep under.

To store books or piles of ironing on it would be sacrilege.

No more sacrilegious than having one and not using it (like me and my harpsichord...)!

A very hard day at work, so relaxing with a glass of Chardonnay and some American piano music from my collection. Lasagne in oven. Dirty uniform in washer.

I heard a new Rod Stewart track on the radio in work. I'm hoping that it won't be played every day until next Easter. I just wish they'd play the Stone Roses again. If they're good enough for Tim Farron to mention them in conference speech, they're good enough for me!

Next Friday at 10. She says my first lesson is planned, back to basics just so she can get to the heart of my worries of sight reading, note recognition and playing with confidence. I can't even play in front of my wife.

You don't have to play in front of anyone. As an old friend of mine used to say, 'I play for my own amazement'.
You'll be fine - but do tell her if you don't want to do sigh treading, so it doesn't spoil the rest of it for you.

Been a marathon 0630-1415 shift today and we've had Two Tribes by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. So it's obvious, they think a song about nuclear armed superpower confrontation is suitable for stocking ones store cupboard to. So they can now play Ebenezer Goode or Anarchy In The UK.

And STILL no Christmas songs yet. But also today we heard January by Pilot.

But I want to have the confidence to play in front of others, Gill. You do every Sunday. And I have to cracking the code of reading music and getting a tune out of it, just think of all the new pieces I'll be able to learn effortlessly. I do not think Mabel Mucklethwaite was the right teacher for me after all and it might be good to have a new teacher as we might actually get somewhere. Well, she has the same surname as me, so that's a good start.

In that case don't pressurise yourself. Go very gently and make it clear that you can't be rushed and need to work at your own speed. If it helps I had to play in a concert last night and got ahangup about a particular piece. Sure enough I fluffed it and had to extricate myself. Happens to most of us.

The questions rage on about the pound in our pockets, just how far is it going, or how far will it go if, as the rightie press desire a hard Brexit happens in the early part of 2017. And how about our grocery bills? How much will they rise in a weaker economy after any kind of 'Brexit'. Or our jobs or fuel bills, for that matter?? And in the USA, two people are in the running to become the most powerful person in the world in November,

According to our in store radio station, these are the things that they do not think matters to the great British public one iota. Because Justin Beaver is on tour and David Beckham has done something quite unimportant and trivial.

Dan and Lindsay.....amnesia and lobotomy. I really am looking forwards to their two minutes silence on Remembrance Day. It'll be the best thing they've ever broadcast.
