Classical/Baroque or 70's digital?? (Walter/Windy Carlos)

Post by StuartAU »

Guys Gals,, One thing id like to ask, i ask because.. Any attempt to discuss it with my Teacher goes with a huff n puff and wondered what you thought..
I love music, all kinds of music but admire Classical Music, mainly Pipe Organ or Baroque or Concertos (Especially Bach's Brandenburg)..

But my desire and want is more to listen to the likes of styles like Walter Carlos's Switched on Bach.
The digital sound does something extra to me.. I darent listen to it whilst driving!

I have uploaded my own tracks which i ripped from a purchased album "Switched on Bach" for you to just listen to..

to me, Not much music can compare to this one below from 02:02--->

Is it bad liking this style of music or this interpretation more than the original classical Orchestra?
Is it still classical? what would Bach say about it now?
I love Bach and will always admire him..
In my opinion, Its his music and at the end of the day it can be played as seen through the musicians eyes or should it be played as Johann wanted it?>

I'm not that keen on that stuff, but I love Jacques Loussier (see You tube)...which is jazzed-up Bach with a string bass & drum kit (as opposed to drum 'n' bass... :mrgreen: ). Purists will always roll their eyes at this stuff, but then you could argue that JSB should only ever be played on a harpsichord (he didn't like the piano) in candlelight wearing flat sandals and no makeup...:) If you like it, play it!
I play for my own amazement... :piano;

Glenn Gould said of the 4th brandenburg concerto:
""the finest performance of any of the Brandenburgs - live, canned or intuited - that I've ever heard.""
