"Antivirus Plus" Trojan

Post by Pianomate » 24 Mar 2009, 01:42

Not specifically piano related but this trojan tried to infect my PC today. If you visit a website and get a popup message which appears to originate from Microsoft Security Center" (which it doesn't) saying that your PC is infected with some virus etc and asking you to go to a website called "Antivirus Plus", do not follow the link. If you try and close the popup the normal way, it will keep coming back (you need to use CTR-ALT-DEL to get out of it).

If you follow the link to the fake website and run the "free scan" it offers, it will in fact upload the trojan onto your PC. Your PC will then slow down and you will ge messages asking you to purchase the full version. Of course when you enter credit card details, your bank account will be completely cleared out!
