Re: Yamaha Upright or Grand?

Several people have already given you valid advise. I note from your comments of “Your Prompt Reply please”, and your repeated requests for advise that you would appear to be in a hurry to buy an acoustic piano. BIG mistake! There are some important rules which should be observed when starting the s...

Re: Yamaha Upright or Grand?

Many choose an upright over a grand because they take up far less space and generally (but not always) cost less. As you are a beginner there is no certainty that you will keep playing for years even if you intend on having lessons. In that case I would suggest you consider renting a piano for a yea...

Re: A.Bord Piano question

I'm certainly no expert, but suggest you do a search on this forum using 'Bord'. Having just done that and reading between the lines, I'm sure that your friend is UK is far nearer the mark quoting hundreds, instead of thousands. Even at a round hundred this could well turn out to be a liability rath...

Hi,
Pretty good result considering your comments. :piano;
Incidentally, are those cigarette burns on the treble keys, or finger guide stickers? :?

Re: Disappointment with out of tune Piano

I spoke to my dealer over 10 days ago about a Dampp chaser. They had the brochures available - which I picked up and studied. Dealer said they weren't popular, and couldn't recall ever being asked for one. That surprised me as it's an important, long established store in the region, for both acousti...

Re: Disappointment with out of tune Piano

Crispin, As always some good (and reassuring) advise from PianoGuy. I was initially concerned about the unpleasant out of tune of my new piano delivered last year –even after two contractual post-delivery tunings performed at 4 month intervals. I’d seen hygrometer humidity readings from high of 68% ...

Re: I need a tech

Openwood,
I guess you should know best, but with a population of over 160,000 people, I’m amazed that there is no reputable tech in the Channel Islands. :?:
Do those hotels, music schools and private individuals (with pianos) pay for techs to travel from the mainland?

Digital keyboard with a difference

Perhaps somewhat off-topic, but you may find this of interest. I wonder how many piano/keyboard players here have at one time or another wished they could play a guitar. I certainly have. :? I searched for a hybrid ‘Keytar’model for quite some time, but the one which most appealed to me - the now di...

Hello, From your picture it would appear that this piano has not been tuned for some considerable time, witnessed by the absence of bright spots on the tuning keys – all of which are very rusty and may prevent satisfactory tuning to concert pitch. This coupled with oxidation on the strings, the bad ...

Enjaydee/ Crispin:
Hygrometer checked daily. Steady at 47 RH (for recommended 40-70 on Sauter’s built-in unit).

Hinting of cotton-wool & audio samples did you have this in mind........?

ATG, Thanks for the comments. 1. Afraid I’m unable to give a reply to your first query, as my son (who was playing at the time) just sat down and rattled these off from memory. He often improvises from tunes he’s heard, or from general chord progressions. I’d give my left hand to be able to do that....

When we were kids, we got old celluloid key tops from dad, wrapped them in newspaper and lit them. The trick is not to let them burn but to blow out the flame so it just fumes. They make excellent smoke screens. Setting fire to celluloid key tops, smoke, fumes - don't tell me you ended up like this...

Sauter Sound

On this forum recently, Genaa made our mouths water with the news of his new Sauter piano. And I probably along with others, eagerly await to hear some audio recordings of his Masterclass 130. In the meantime, for those who are unfamiliar with these splendid, relatively unknown pianos, I attach a fe...

Nuttier than a mad hatter, just about sums up this Raymanboy character. Has anyone yet figured out what language he’s writing? It makes me think of Unwinese, developed by Stanley Unwin - who old timers like myself will recall was popular in the 50’s-60’s. [/url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlMmJfG...
