Re: Newbie question: which piano to choose?
Chrisw were you teaching at Oxford? Only been there once for a couple of days spent most of the time in churches and the pub. Rather bizarre, we did a church crawl during the day and a pub crawl in the evening. The church crawl was to see as many organs three a day; there was a recital put on at eac...

Re: Newbie question: which piano to choose?
Forget the Gerhard Heintzman and its more like 70 years old unless you're going to get a tuner to look at it the C110A was made in China not a great piano it was superseded by the B1 far better piano made in Indonesia for Yamaha. If you can afford it I would go for the U1 or 3 as it's a better long-...

Re: Offenbach vs halle & Voigt vs Steinhoven ?
I would pay a tuner to go and look at the 1980s Offenbach The Steinhoven is a very basic entry Pianos, like we used to say about spring loops. They spent more money on the case than they have on the insides. A very basic entry Piano if you spend a day as a tech on them, they are still not great. A l...

Re: Welmar 116 versus Feurich 115
The big problem with Welmar in the 90s was quality it was a tad hit and miss they lost a lot of key workers in the mid-90s and in the late 90s, there was uncertainty in keeping a job as the factory was getting ready to move to Gloucester many best key workers did not want to move to the sticks. I have many 116 Welmar Pianos on my round and the vast majority have a wonderful mellow tone and in most cases, the bass strings are still quite sweet. However, they are getting a little long in the tooth and a few of them are beginning to lose the edge around the fifth Octave, and of course, the ac...

While at the time, the floating centre seemed a good idea in the 70s. They are now proving problematic the actual floating centre itself is still fine; however, what you will find is the centre pin that goes through the wooden part of the butt is the part that is clicking. The clicking sound is possibly glue on the cushion felt or a missing cushion felt or the Centre pin has moved out and is catching the next note that could cause the sluggishness as well. It's very difficult to detect major faults on a piano just by Photos.
Your best bet is to pay a piano tuner to look at the piano first.
As a piano that age and in your country could have lots of issues with the bridges the soundboard and the action.
