Re: Buying a digital piano in the UK (question from Canadian)
I suppose it is a low voltage item and the AC idea would probably work out too. Still, it would be interesting to hear what they are going to quote you for shipping into the UK. If it's done via a courier, I suspect the quote will involve arms and legs, but it may be possible to take on a plane as ...

Re: Buying a digital piano in the UK (question from Canadian)
PLUS the fact that the UK runs on a different current from US and Canada, bringing it across would be more hassle that it would be worth. Try and sell it before you leave. As this keyboard uses an external AC adaptor, all you would need to do is buy the UK version of the adaptor when you get to the...

Re: Roland announce their new V-Piano
I've not seen the Roland yet, but I have seen (- taken apart, put back together and played around with) the Yamaha Avant Grand. Twice the price of a Roland, and definitley not portable, but in a different ballpark altogether compared to digital pianos as we know them.

Re: Kemble and Co Ltd Press release 30 April 2009
I don't have any details about what exactly will happen after October, but I do have a few thoughts on what may happen. As Brian Kemble mentioned in his statement, the materials for Kemble pianos, such as the sound board will continue to come from the same sources as are used at the moment. Unless Y...

Why on earth would Yamaha want to close it down? Could it be because Yamaha make technically perfect pianos that don't sound very nice, and Kemble make technically perfect pianos that sound beautiful? 1. Kemble pianos are basically Yamaha pianos in a different cabinet 2. Kembles have been making a ...

Re: Upright Silent | Non-Silent
Hell, yes. Apart from the nine months it took to repair a faulty sensor rail (I could've had a baby in that time, you know) we've never regretted getting the YUS1 in our music room. 9 months sounds way over the top to me. Was the piano still under warranty? Even if the parts need to come from Japan...

Regarding price, I believe that the silent option adds about £800-900 to the new price. The warranty on the electronics is 1 year, so the used porices tend to be the same as the basic instrument. Just a quick clarification: In the UK all electronic Yamaha instruments, inc. the electronics on Silent...

XG stands for “eXtended General MIDI”. When MIDI was first developed, MIDI messages and commands were standardised by a MIDI committee consisting of several bodies (inc. Yamaha). What is wave memory and why is it important?
Wave memory is the amount of memory available for storing piano samples. The more memory you have the more samples you can store for each key, i.e. separate samples for different velocities, stereo (see FAQs), sustained notes and lately, also sympathetic samples of adjacent strings during sustain an...

Re: Earphones for digital piano - recommendations please
I like Beyer and Sennheiser headphones. If the ones you choose don't have a long cable, just get a 1/4" stereo jack extension lead from your local music shop or the 'net. The only thing to check is the recommended impedance - if it's not in your manual, you might have to call Casio for that.

Or put a barn door on the vestry, install a sophisticated environmental control system in there, be prepared to get a tuner in every time you wheel it out and buy a concert grand (you might have to add a '0' or two to your budget)

Re: I know I will get slated but what's best way to buy online
PianoGuy makes some good points, but I would have one reservation when buying online. If you get the piano delivered (300 miles from the shop) and you do get problems which should be fixed under warranty, the dealer won't send his technician on a 600 mile round trip to have a look. Which means betwe...
