What I tell my customers is go back take three bits of music one you love playing, one you find technically difficult and one you hate. If all them three pieces sound wonderful on the piano then that's the one you.

Re: Advice please. Kawai BL-12 vs Yamaha U1
Both are good makes and models of the time. However, I would be concerned about the U1 being down a semitone and you said that some notes were not sounding the same note that may mean that some of the tuning pins are lose if they are not lose it will take a few tunings to stabilise the piano. Depending on where you live
Removals can run from £85 to £200 for a straightforward local move with no problems.
Tuning at the pitch its at can run from £65 to £125 with no repairs again depending where you live.
I would find out what your local tuner charges for an inspection

While on paper the chapel would be a better buy. However, like anything secondhand it's how it's been treated and looked after. I would ask the sellers who tune the piano last and try to contact the piano tuner to find out something about the piano. Because the removal costs could be quite steep and...

the k500 and K600 are very nice but like all pianos, you need to play them and a few if posable. You asked about the U3 v Yus3. The YUS3 has better hammer felt (which helps if you want to take the piano down to Bluthner level of tone) a better scale which helps in the mid-range change over to the Ba...

Size matters, you can have a 116 quality piano which will outperform a 122 middle of the road piano across the range. Schimmel 122 is a nice piano it voices well and the action can be tweaked. However, that is one brand you really do need to make a note of the serial number in the showroom. Over the...

I have worked on both YUS3 K800. I prefer the Yus3 top treble over the K800. but the K800 is far better in the mid-range and Bass The action on the K800 is lighter than the YUS3 and more responsive. Hamiltons in Preston have a K400 and K300 I was very impressed with the K400 with the longer keys. Th...

when you play single notes some of the Bass string are a bit false and the unison is just out on some notes.
on the cords, it shows up, possibly a bad scale did the tuner use an electronic tuning device or by ear.

Hexacore were and are used to make life easier for the string maker as the strings stay wound longer. However, they do introduce falseness into the string. Most tuners carry a set of Hexacore strings as you can remove the copper to the required length.

Hi, markymark,
Be very careful with pre-1995 YC grand pianos as you get aluminium creep in the action brackets. it is very difficult to get replacements.
Other than that they are fine with the usual how well the piano has been looked after.
