Hello again and thanks for the welcome! Dave, that's a good idea about the library, it would be interesting to know a bit more about what goes on in there. As for me, I am a long-standing vegetarian but am actually not a regular consumer of nutroast, it just seems to describe me rather well! Sparkle...

Dave, many thanks for the warm welcome! I've never had lessons before, I had one when I was about 10 and my parents probably just thought I'd teach myself as I play many instruments at the time, but it never made sense to me and I lost interest. Now, I'm 42 and much keener! I look forward to sharing...

Hello, can I join you?

Well, I'm furnished with my wonderful piano and have been practicing whenever I can. I'll be starting my weekly lessons in two weeks from now and look forward to asking you lots of stupid questions!

I'm going to be educated!

Yes, I know it sounds unlikely, but I've found a piano tutor prepared to risk her reputation by taking me on :D My lessons start in 2 weeks' time from now and I'll be having a half-hour slot every week. I've had my piano for just over two weeks now and am having a great time, but definitely need som...

Well, Mr Openwood, it's because it's an announcement, therefore you have to say something and what, exactly, do you know about this short person apart from gender, time of arrival and weight? I guess you may know name or colour, but they're usually optional. It's also the only time in your life when...

So, what did I buy?

My new baby is a 1985 Marshall & Rose. You told me I should buy the best I could afford and this really blew the budget, but it's an absolute peach. It arrives next week and I'm excited beyond excited! Thank you all for your advice and for putting up with dumb questions from me. I'll certainly b...

Nope! Ha, I'll keep you guessing! It arrives next Monday and I promise to reveal all by then, unless you make me crack in the meantime

I did proceed with caution, and went to a tuner for advice and didn't buy the Collard. I've now done something very rash indeed..... more to follow later :)

Thanks again for your advice,

Collard opinions?

Does anyone have any comments on Collard & Collard? I've seen one at a good dealer (ie, some assurances rather than a private seller), it's cross-strung and underdamped. I'm a beginner and will probably be looking at replacing it in a few years from now, once I've saved up a bit. So is this a go...

My advice is always to buy the best instrument you can afford. If you're looking at getting a brand new piano check out Yamaha, Kemble and Kawai uprights as they are excellent value for money. Oh, I wish you hadn't said that! I've just been checking out Kemble's web site. Quick, hide the credit car...

Hello Openwood and Descombes and many thanks for your replies. I spoke to my husband about this last night and he echoed exactly what you said -including the bit about the digital option! I saw some things about the silent opion on this site yesterday and it looks like a great idea. I am lucky not t...

Actually, ignore my question about the cost of a tuner, I just saw the answers on another thread.

Thanks,

Newbie here and a question

Hello! This is my first posting. Having browsed the site for a while I thought I'd better say hello. Having had a piano when I was a child, but no lessons, I just plonked away happily and then lost interest and the piano was sold. 30 years later, I'm now really keen to learn and will be starting les...
