I might get critisized for this but I feel older teachers bond better with pupils of a similar age as they would have been taught back in the 40s to 60s about the great classical...

Probably not moving onto other areas that need practice. I focus on the same thing ad infinitum until I'm sure it's perfect.

I'd alwas look first at how my hands were, posture, arms before looking at any book. Half the time it's down to how the individual uses their hands and their choice of fingers.

Hi. Here's an idea: Maybe because you are using 4 instead of 3 it's causing a stretch between the fingers 4 and 5. If that's the case then simply try 3 instead, e.g C , E, G, C are played using: 1, 2, 3, 5 respectively D, #F, A, D would again use: 1, 2, 3, 5 respectively E, G, B, E: 1, 2, 3, 5 F, A,...
