"playing in" a new piano
After much research, travelling and trying different pianos, I've finally bought a K6. I really liked the tone, and the action. My daughter also really liked the piano, but felt the bass wasn't as crisp as on the K5 we tried in a different shop. I thought the sound was more influenced by the showroo...

Re: New piano
That's a fair point. I need to persuade my wife the TV needs a smaller room! The existing music room is 13.5x11 foot, but planning to move house in 1-2y, when a bigger music room is high on the list of essentials. Also playing loud is probably more difficult for me and my daughter due to a genetic n...

Re: New piano
I've just found a dealer with a new K6 on offer £1100 cheaper than the K5 list price, so I'm going to try it tomorrow. If we like it as much as the K5 we'll definitely buy it. I'm hoping we'll like it more than the K5, as it is the next model up, with longer strings and longer keys, which might help...

Re: New piano
You're right mdw, the shop were upfront that they couldn't sell the Yam anywhere near it's RRP, as people would not pay that much for an upright Yam. I think it's a great piano, and apparently many people like it but if they have £18500 to spend they end up getting a Bechstein, which I guess would h...

Re: New piano
Thanks for the advice, I'm finding it quite difficult choosing. I'm happy to pay a fair price, but I don't want to be a mug and get ripped off. The SU7 has a huge reduction on its list price of £18500, and may represent the best value. My daughter (who is a better pianist than I am) really liked the...

New piano
I'm looking to upgrade from a small Kemble, and on my short list of new pianos that I have played and liked are Zimmerman Z1 (£11,000ish), Kawai K5 (6700), Yamaha SU7 (10,900). I realise there should be some negotiating on these prices. What do you think of this short list, and what would be a fair ...
