Re: pedal and rest's

thanks Gill, I found a thread on another forum on this subject also. The impression I'm getting is that it's open to interpretation in a lot of cases.

pedal and rest's

I'm using the John Thompson modern course second grade book. The Etude on page 16 indicates to hold the damper/sustain pedal down for all 6 beats in each bar, yet in each bar there is rest in bass clef part for beats 4,5,6 . So by holding the pedal down you can't strictly observe the rest. I've noti...

Re: correct way to play arpeggios piano-ology

sorry, been offline and missed your reply Joseph. It wasn't a case of whether or not it's possible but whether it was practical. I found the piano-ology video quite convincing. If playing it at speed would it be practical to contort your hand like this or would you lift and reset the hand position a...

Re: correct way to play arpeggios piano-ology

thanks for the advice Mark. There's a lot of conflicting advice out there so as a beginner it's difficult to sort out the good advice from the bad.

correct way to play arpeggios piano-ology

I came across this series of lessons on youtube. What do you think of the advice on playing arpeggios : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYySEUEAvj0 My teacher told me to rotate my arm and wrist and stretch my thumb under which is the complete opposite to the advice on the piano-ology video. I'd be in...

Re: piano technique for classical guitarist

I think you've misunderstood me. I'm absolutely not interested in endless scales, arpeggios and excecises but making music. Technique isn't playing scales and arpeggios. You can play scales and arpeggios with a poor technique or bad technique. Or that's the way it works on the guitar. And if you've ...

Re: piano technique for classical guitarist

many thanks for the advice Gill. I know that my progress on the guitar could have been much more rapid had I known what I know now. I'm a bit older and wiser now so want to optimise the time I spend practising the piano and not waste time on pointless excersises etc. Maybe it's just a case of findin...

piano technique for classical guitarist

I have a question on piano technique and piano lessons in general. I've been playing classical guitar to a good standard for about 20 years and can read music OK.I have recently started learning the piano and am really enjoying it. I've been practising for a couple of months and can play a simple ar...
