Re: Kawai BS-10 soundboard

The posts are called bracings and many makers did not put them on in the 60 - 80s to save money and space. They do make the tuning more stable in a changing environment and if you move the pian across a room. The diagonal strips are called Ribs they transmit sound across the grain on the soundboard ...

As I understand it the EEC directive as it stands you have to prove the ivory is older than 1930 if after 1930 and pre 1970 you then have to prove origins. Also as tuners, we can fix damaged ivory and charge for the repair. However, we can not charge you for any replacement ivory What we are hoping ...

Re: Is my 1906 Ferd Manthey piano worth restoring?

Ok your tuner may or may not know this but there is a chemical tuning pin restore. Two methods, one uses
pin tie and the other using CA glue

The piano needs to be put on its back for best results I tend to use pin tite first as the CA fumes are a killer

More to the point why should such a young piano (Petrof?) have loose tuning pins? All depends on how deep your pockets are. The cost of the repair will be more than the piano's worth. To change the tuning pins you are going to need to change the string ideally, you can just repin but it depends on the quality of the strings. The action looks very tired and needs of a full recondi...

Changing the plank on this piano will very complex as it looks like it forms part of the bridge system. Also, looking at the tuning pins they look like they are pulling forward, could be the angel of the photo but there should be a 7 degree tilt away from the speaking length.

you have 3 options

1. you can change the pin block
2. you can change the tuning pins come up 2 sizes in tuning pin
3. chemical option, the cheapest option would be to pin-tite it or super glue it

All depends on your tuners skill set
