Just to check, am I right in assuming that "chopping it up for firewood" implies a timber frame, not an iron one? If so, it might be old enough to be considered a late fortepiano. If not, they've still got to get the iron frame out of the window even if the timber casework is chopped up.

Looks like the Classic T is very similar to our Conservatoire, and I agree, the sound is wonderful. When we first got it I used to play just random notes with the sustain pedal down, and the general wash of harmonics was just wonderful, and for so long as well. Well having had ours for nearly a year now I would say go for the Conservatoire while you can still get one. Beautiful sound and action, and no hinge along the top lid to make vases wobble (my wife said to put in that last bit).

Is it a cabinet upright - about 6ft tall? If so, we have one dated around 1845 with loads of rosewood and original looking cloth on the upper panel. Sounds ropey but then its not been tuned for many years.
