I remember having the Muppet Show album on vinyl when I was a kid and we had an album of childrens stories I think too.
The first casette album I bought was the Simpsons Sing the Blues and the first CD album was Celine Dion. Hehehe

Hi Martin! I'm 30, so not too much older than you and I started to learn just three short weeks ago. I'd wanted to learn since High School so I got an early (VERY early) Christmas present from my husband a few weeks ago - A Yahama personal piano (fondly referred to as 'stinky digital', but loved non...

Lordy, I wish I could home a real piano, upright or otherwise! But unless I tear my newly decorated house apart I would have to play in the hall but then I wouldn't be able to get out of the door and the tuner wouldn't be able to get in. Not ideal. :? Stinky digital will have to do for the time bein...

Personally, I don't think that the pool cleaner is going to last. Louise is dead right about the cruise ship singer comparison! No, I don't think he's going to make it either. He's a bit... I dunno.... lounge singer. I can't see Girl Band making it too much further either. I like Eoghan... he's swe...

what year were you at the RSAMD Kat? I was there from 1998-2003, then i went back in 05-06. Sorry to hear about your brother - I always feel really sad when I hear things like that! I was there in 1997 to 1998 - the year the drama and opera school did Benjamin Britten's opera A Midsummer Night's Dr...

Does the Bridgewater Hall have an organ like there is in Symphony Hall/the Town Hall in Birmingham, Kat? Blimey, has it ever - the organ is probably not far off the size of the IMAX screen! Sadly, I haven't heard it... yet! Shame about the 37 quid train ticket. There are advantages to being 'maroon...

Forsyth's is great and always seems busy when I've passed by. It looks like such a small old fashioned shop from the outside but it's massive inside. When you're up this way, Dave, you'll have to check out the Bridgewater Hall programme and see if the Halle or the BBC Phil are playing. I took my Mum...

Very odd, Dave. Maybe there is a tear in the space-time continuum around Manchester or Brum-land? :P If the mrs can count in time but not clap or tap in time, that seems to indicate an issue of co-ordination rather than no sense of rhythm. I would say it's probably just a case of lots of rhythm prac...

Hey Joseph, I went to the RSAMD... stage management though, not music and I had to leave after the first year when my brother died very suddenly. Still nice to 'bump into' someone else familiar with the school. :o) Dave, on the subject of Mrs Brum's rhythm... have you tried getting her to find a nat...

My brother was born with hydrocephalus and spina bifida so was both physically and mentally handicapped. He was able to play anything by ear after hearing it once or twice. That's a shame, Mark. I was an IT trainer in my last job and consider, when someone isn't very good at something, that it's simply an area for improvement, not something they 'just can't do'. Sure, some people will find certain skills easier to pick up than others, but that's no excuse for a tutor (...

I fear it shall be many a year before a BBC talent scout is likely to sniff anywhere near me... either that or there will be some sort of disaster in which all the musically talented people in the world are somehow lost! Thanks for the advice on playing lots of different...

Hi all... Good tip about the sight reading book by Paul Harris... I am going to look that one out too. After all, who doesn't want to improve their sight reading? Do people really think sight reading can't be taught/learned? Isn't that rather like saying you can't learn or teach the reading o...

Hi Moonlight (and all!) My tutor introduced me to Bach's Prelude (mentioned above) in my first lesson because the shape of the music is quite repetetive so you only need to be able to read a few notes and recognise the repitition. She also suggested Chopin as a good classical composer for beginners ...

Why, Euphemia sounds like a little angel, Mr Fleetwood!!! :P I probably should've mentioned that I'm 30 and my Mum's tone deaf and my Dad's just impressed that I can read music on the basis that he can plonk by ear but music might as well be dutch for him - hehe! Hi all, I've been following the forum for a while and found it very useful so I'll take the opportunity, before anything else, to thank you all for the great info and advice... I even found my piano tutor on here. :D But, finally, it seems I have a question that hasn't already been answered - or at ...
