Richard Smith piano entertainment My show 'Music Halls to Musicals' is a roller coaster ride of fun, intrigue and unashamed nostalgia which tells the light-hearted history of popular music and comedy song. Delving behind the façade of the industry surrounding it, it tells some of the stories behind the stars, the songs and the shows. It traces live entertainment from music halls through variety to more recent musicals. Early adventures in sound recording lead to films, classic shows on radio & television, including their signature tunes & TV commercials. Features include melodies that are not quite as original as they may seem & unforgettable songs by writers such as Flanders & Swann, Noel Coward, The Beatles as well as original material. 'Music Halls to Musicals' is entertainment for after dinner or the whole evening - everything can be supplied including the piano and lighting if necessary. Musician and Songwriter Richard Smith has first hand experience of the music business. Starting with piano lessons at age six, his song-writing career began in earnest at College when 'The Biggest Balalaika in the World' was recorded and issued on 'Clinton the Clown' LP. His first job was with EMI Records in London, then Germany to market repertoire on the Tamla Motown, Apple and other labels. At this point he rubbed shoulders with many of the biggest names in the business such as Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. He became a Staff Producer and A & R Manager, working throughout Europe as well as with Radio Luxemburg. World-wide sales of songs he has written exceed 1.5 million copies. Since then he has had a regular radio spot playing, singing and talking about popular music. He has also written, arranged and directed the music for two touring plays, one of which was the subject of an HTV documentary.
