Daniel LawBA (Hons), DipABRSM, MA (Music Performance) 60 Credtis
Winner of the Canon Jack Award for solo piano and the Colchester Institute Concerto Prize with a performance of John Ireland's Piano Concerto, Daniel is currently a Masters student studying with pianist Nigel Clayton at the Royal College of Music and Sharon Shoa at the University of East Anglia. As an undergraduate Daniel studied piano with Francis Reneau and piano accompaniment with Christopher Roberts at the Colchester Institute Centre for Music and Performing Arts. Whilst studying he performed in masterclasses for Alexander Ardakov, Piers Lane and Victor Sangiorgio and since has held the position of resident accompanist at the Colchester Institute where he continues to accompany lectures and performances across the centre’s departments. In recent years Daniel has accompanied for masterclasses given by influential performers, ensembles and educators from around the world, including Victoria Soames-Samek (Clarinet), Timothy Lines (Clarinet) and Florian Kitt (cello). Whilst working on various solo and ensemble projects Daniel has been fortunate enough to receive coaching from Lesley Young (piano), Stephen Bingham and James Halsey (Bingham String Quartet).
A regular recitalist in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, Daniel also performs with soloists and ensembles across the country, a venture in which he explores his interest in the solo and duo repertoire of the 19th Century Romantic and 20th Century British composers. His programmes regularly explore the entire compass of the piano repertoire, including works by Beethoven, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Debussy as well as uncovering unfamiliar works by composers including Clementi, Copland, Ireland and Piazzolla. Future performances in 2011 will see Daniel perform Shostakovich’s 2nd Piano Concerto with the Southend Symphony and University of East Anglia Orchestras as well give a number of solo recitals to include Beethoven’s Piano Sonata op.110.
